Inside Out

InsideOut formed in the middle of 2005 when two life long musical friends and a musical acquaintance were asked if they would provide the music for a 50th birthday. With their collective love of 60’s rock and the knowledge of its ability to please audiences of all ages they put together a set that proved to be a winner and convinced them to continue working together. They quickly added a lead guitarist and keyboards to complete one of the few traditional live 5 piece cover bands on the Christchurch scene. InsideOut continued to gain popularity on both the club and pub circuit and after a couple of enforced personnel changes they entered 2010 with a new set of rock classics from the 60s/70s/80s and 90s. The goal remains the same, to entertain and enjoy playing good music that makes people happy and want to dance.

Allan Robertson

Affectionately known as the Reverent Al or Almondo. Allan has earned a reputation as one of the better rock guitarists in Christchurch. Taught to play by Nuns, at the tender age of 12 he withdrew all his savings from several Post Office accounts to buy his first electric guitar which he still has today. Although an accomplished player and performer, his early band experience was limited to local bands playing for cream buns plus a donation to the Lonely Hearts Club and then Uni bands as a late student. Catapulted into the public arena via a country rock band he soon found himself elevated to the exulted position of lead guitar and backing vocals for InsideOut. Whilst enjoying playing rock and blues he still remains very comfortable and active in the duo/trio genre. His energetic and exciting style has made him a real star with the InsideOut audience.

 Marie Gutsell

Affectionately known as Marie Magnifico or Keys. Marie provides the finesse to an otherwise uncontrolled bunch of reprobates. She grew up in the metropolis of Mataura soon becoming part of their musical royalty. At aged 8, music lessons with a neighbour led to a Bachelor’s Degree of Music and a life of sex, drugs and rock’n’roll, culminating in becoming the only ever female member of Invercargill’s legendary Vision. In a desperate bid to escape swede/turnip farming, the gentle art of possum skinning as well as other strange practices that are best left in Southland our heroine headed for the bright lights of Christchurch and quickly became part of the local music scene. Marie, through her keyboard, not only adds another musical dimension to the band’s set list but also she adds a feminine touch, InsideOut is surely blessed.

Dave Dixon

Affectionately known as Dee Dee or Double D. Dave brings an international musical background to the band. Brought up in the tough environment of the English city of Doncaster, Dave started playing guitar at the age of 6. He joined his first band in
1978 playing at school dances and RAF Bases, his first ‘real’ band was a Uni band that travelled the UK picking up the occasional radio spot and support gig for touring headliner acts . On completing his Uni studies Dave set up a small but successful music business, writing music for TV/Radio/ Ads/jingles and special dance groups before up-rooting the family and moving to NZ via Botswana. Playing in African bands as the token white boy was both educational and character building, providing the experience that he brings to InsideOut as a core member and driving force.

Tim Trollope

Affectionately known as Tim Tee or The Legal Eagle. Tim starting playing the drums at the age of seven becoming a percussionist in the National Secondary Schools before graduating as skin basher for several infamous Uni bands. His secondary employment as a successful lawyer has not only helped him set-up advice websites for musicians but added a musical component to his law practice. From the early orchestras and High School musical groups Tim graduated to Uni and social/party bands before becoming a foundation member of Collectors Edition and more recently InsideOut’s rock. Tim’s jazz influences have enabled him to become both an anchor and an innovator for the two bands as well as developing the ability to produce dance rhythms at the drop of a hat. InsideOut has provided a vehicle for Tim to express the rock element of his drumming.

Hugo Pow

Affectionately known as Blue or Muscles. Hugo is the only original member of InsideOut. Once again a musician that started out at a tender age and in a semi classical vein, the love of music and entertaining eventually took him through NZ, Australia, America, Asia, the UK and mainland Europe before returning home. Born and bred in Dunedin, he refined his art on the tough local pub circuit before treading the boards abroad. Principally a group member as a singer/guitarist, he has performed as a soloist with computerized backing but loves the band scene camaraderie and the buzz of an audience enjoying good music played totally live. Known for his incredibly bad sense of humour and poor joke delivery he always tries to be the “life and soul” of the bands performance, the purveyor of audience enjoyment and participation whilst being the voice of InsideOut.

Like the other four members, InsideOut is his release and he enjoys nothing better than seeing the pleasure that their music brings to an audience.
